So this finally happened.
I cracked the screen of my iPhone sfter of 2 years of living dangerously with no case. It wasn’t exactly a tragedy, as it was time to upgrade anyways. So I said goodbye to my 4s this afternoon and welcomed a 5.
And there is nothing like the sound of a death crack to remind me that I spend too much time staring at my phone screen. So while I wait through the hours of updates need to switch phones, I decided to stop back by the old blog for a while. I might even stay a while over the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
This past weekend was so loud! So much noise and so much anger and so much ignorance! And now almost every corner of the internet has been splashed with the Ferguson Fury. The voices online are so loud and so often misinformed. Suddenly everyone thinks they are an expert in North County. But in reality
I’ve been studying St. Louis politics and government for a decade now. I started a Masters program in Public Policy ten years ago this month, and in the ten years since I have learned a massive quantity of information about the way St. Louis County operates. And with that being said, I still learn something new about St. Louis County everyday. I still feel I have a lot to learn about my community after studying it for a decade and living here for over three decades.
Granted, I have lots of opinions about what has gone on in Ferguson over the last ten days. But right now the last thing St. Louis needs is more voices adding to the noise. This community needs more people listening to what people in Ferguson have to say. So that’s what I am going to do, keep my opinions to myself. I want to concentrate on listening to the right voices at such a critical time. Hearing the key voices from Ferguson has helped me to really remember what is important in life. And I’m really set to listen in hard.
There is a lot to process about the events in Ferguson from this past weekend and yet all I see are people reacting loudly. Facebook was rotten today; I thought about deleting my account. But that would be stupid, as today has already been full of too many angry reactions. I’m checked out.
Whenever I stay late at my job I have to contend with more traffic. My usual route home from work is usually backed up by this point, so I’ve found a few creative detours to avoid the increased traffic. Sometime the quickest detour is to cut through Ladue, the ritziest neighborhood in St. Louis County. Yesterday I cut through Ladue on my way home, and took a couple of photos while stopped at traffic lights that really sum up the Ladue lifestyle. It makes for a fun game of Either/Or on #2ForTuesday
First up is what I call the old Ladue Traffic Jam.
This is me stuck at a green traffic light behind a Volvo. The driver of this Volvo decided to put down the automatic roof on his car at a red light, but the process took so long that it bled into the green light. I sat behind him for a solid minute waiting for the top to come down. Assholes like this are a specialty in Ladue.
Next up is what I call the Slums of Ladue
This is a picture of a new neighborhood being built on Ladue Road, right by I-270. Some local builder is throwing up a cul-de-sac full of McMansions near the highway, and the starting price is only $700K. Get serious. I mean, what self-respecting millionaire would embarrass themselves with a cheapy mansion near the highway for under a milli? Slumdog millionaires indeed.
So my question is which picture is more “Ladue” – the traffic jam or the slums?
