The Captains Satellite Heart : MR 2011-3

First up in this week’s Two For Tuesdays is Satellite by The Kills.
The Kills – Satellite by DominoRecordCo

Satellite is the first single off of The Kills soon to be released fourth album, Blood Pressures.  If you’re not familiar with The Kills you should check out their previous work, especially their last ablum Midnight Boom.  At this point singer Alison Mosshart is probably more famous for fronting Jack White’s current band, The Dead Weather.  But I prefer her work as a duo in The Kills with Jamie Hince.  I’m looking forward to hearing the album when it’s released on April 1st.

This week’s second song is Oh My Heart by R.E.M.

The track is off of R.E.M.’s fifteenth(!) studio album that is scheduled to be released next week.  As with their last ablum, Accelerate, R.E.M. seemed determined to return to their more classic sound.  This track, with it’s gorgeous mandolin accompaniment, sounds like a lost track off of their 1991 breakthrough album, Out Of Time.  I can’t say enough good things about this song; I hope that R.E.M.’s current revival continues well into the future.

Ciao,

The Captain
