The Captain Is Now A Cult Member

A couple of weekends ago I finally got to see Martha Marcy May Marlene, the movie I’ve been anticipating since May.  It lived up to my expectations and then some.  The film is one long creepy slow burn that had me squirming in my overpriced Plaza Frontenac seat for 101 minutes.  John Hawkes was great as the folksy cult leader, but the best performance was definitely Elizabeth Olsen as the title character.  She definitely deserves an Oscar nomination, which would be awesome if she gets one before her billionaire older twin sisters.  But don’t just take my word for it.  My sister went to a theatre for the first time in 2011 just to check it out, and Secretly Stephie also wrote up a glowing review.  Check out the preview again and go see this film NOW!

Ciao,

The Captain

I saw MMMM this weekend and loved the movie but I’m one of the many who hated the ending. I didn’t hate it for the fact that they just cut the movie off without any closure. Not having full closure doesn’t bother me, it’s part of the indie movie formula, and I like the indie movie formula. The problem is that there felt like there was a lot left unsaid. Had the movie been longer, covered a little more stuff, I wouldn’t mind the “formulaic” ending.

Other than the unsatisfactory ending though, I loved the movie.
