The Captains February Plans
I got some big news in January, but more about that on Monday. For now, here’s a #Friday5 all about the changes I intend to make in the upcoming month.
Top 5 Plans For February 2013
1. Cleanse
After an especially gluttonous holiday season, Meg and I have decided to do another cleanse in February. We tried it last March and were pleased with the results, but we eventually went back to our old diet after a few months:
So we’re giving it another shot to see if it sticks this time around. So for the whole month there will be no caffeine, meat, dairy, eggs, sugar or gluten going into my body. It’s a big change for sure, but Meg is doing most of the prep work so it’s been pretty bearable so far. Granted, it’s going to make for a pretty lame romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day
But I need to put health as a bigger priority in my life. So let’s get cleansing!
2. No Booze
Along that same line, I’m also giving up alcohol for February. I’ve been trying to cut back on drinking as of late, and going a month without is always a good way to test my resolve. Unfortunately, that means I’ll be skipping Mardi Gras tomorrow. With the weather forecast to be in the 50s, I get the feeling I’ll be missing a good party this year.
3. Get back up to speed
I’ve been slowly getting back into a running routine over the past few months, and now I’m ready to get back to speed. I avoided my gym in January hoping to steer clear the of huge crowds, but February looks just as packed. So I altered my schedule a bit and found a way to make it work. My gym gets crowded after 4:30, so I just need to make it there early and I’m good to go. Plus, the timing means I can watch Jeopardy while I’m running on the treadmill! Although it’s been tough to watch the trendy crap that the show is forced to adopt this week for the Teen Tournament.
For shame, Alex.
4. New show
Speaking of television, Meg and I decided that is was time to adopt a new drama this year. With most of our favorite dramas either ended or on hiatus, we’ve been looking for something fresh. Last year we picked up Homeland and absolutely loved it. This year we’re giving The Americans on FX a chance. The initial reviews have been stellar, so we’re getting on at the ground floor.
5. Finally beat Grellner at Oscar Pics
Meg and I have a friendly Oscar competition every year. And while I’ve lost to her more than I’ve won, she is definitely beatable. The only person I’ve never been able to best at Oscar Pics is my buddy Grellner. The man is a natural. But this year I’m determined to beat him. So look out pal, I’m coming for you!
Ciao,
The Captain

Well with Lent taking up half of February, that should help you out with 1 and 2
Pick up House of Cards on Netflix too. So. Damn. Good.
Quinoa tastes like dust.
Yeah, come next Wednesday Lent and the cleanse will be a good match. But tomorrow I’ll be wishing I was in Soulard. And I don’t have Netflix, so I’ll have to wait till HoC gets pirated. Still, good to know.
