The Captain Prefers Tuesdays That Are Super

Three extremely exciting things have happened over the last couple of days.  On Saturday, I finally saw There Will Be Blood.  It was every bit as amazing as I had imagined.  Simply brilliant.

During the films climatic ending, something occurred to me for the first time. Not to give anything away, but Daniel Day Lewis’ character booms the line “I drink your milkshake!  I drink it up!”  My immediate thought was “I bet some idiot is going to make a Blood trailer with that ridiculous Kelis song and put it on YouTube.”  Sadly, I was correct .  I get the feeling that predicting YouTube videos will be a quite common occurrence in the future.

My weekend excitement continued on Sunday with Super Bowl XLII.  The last several Super Bowls have been extremely boring because 1.  The game is usually a blowout by the second half, and 2.  The New England Patriots keep winning the damn thing.  Well not so this year.  I guess all the cheating in the world couldn’t have helped this team.

Watching the game with diehard New York and Boston fans really added to the excitement of the event.  They were so into the game that they even made their dogs wear jerseys.  While I was glad to see Boston loose, I still felt bad for my buddy Mark.  Celebrating your birthday the day after your hometown teams loses the big game would be tough for anyone.1

Speaking of canines, a quick Megan demands a dog update.  We are still poochless, but her resolve continues to increase.  While in Chicago recently, Megan’s friends tried to stage a dog intervention

But they were unsuccessful.  I’m not sure how long my forces can withstand the constant doggie barrage.

My weekend was not nearly as exciting as tonite’s activities.  I’ve enjoyed watching politics for years, and I can honestly say that this Super Tuesday is about as exciting as it gets for me.  With both races so close, I’ve been glued to the television all day.  Despite the networks’ love for calling races early, I am not going to speculate on the winners as of right now.  I’ll probably end up falling asleep on the couch and have to see the results tomorrow.

I was so excited about the primaries tonite that I actually rearranged my travel plans.  I was originally planning on coming to St. Louis to celebrate Fat Tuesday.  However, I canceled this plan when I realized that I would probably be sitting by a television at a bar in Soulard dorking it up big time.  I prefer to dork it up in the privacy of my own home, so here I sit watching MSNBC.

On a related note, I am still coming to St. Louis this week.  I will be in town for a few days, so please hit me up if you would like to socialize.

1  Then again, Boston hasn’t exactly been on a losing streak lately.
